How Elopements Work in New Jersey
In New Jersey, couples must book their officiant and provide the officiant’s information before a Marriage License can be issued.
Municipal registrars require an officiant on file, and a license cannot be released without one.
Once your officiant is secured, most New Jersey elopements follow a clear process:
Applying for a Marriage License
Meeting New Jersey witness requirements
Officiating the elopement ceremony or vows
Submitting the completed license for processing
Receiving your Certified Marriage Certificate
For eligible couples and depending on municipal availability, I can also assist with receiving your Certified Marriage Certificate on the same day you are married.
This is especially helpful for couples with immigration, travel, or legal timelines.
