Payment and Payment Methods

A signed Service Agreement and full payment for the package of your choice is required to “officially” reserve the date and time for your ceremony.  No dates will be held until full payment is made and Service Agreement is signed.

All packages are as described.  Variations may incur additional charges.  Holiday surcharges of $150 will apply for ceremony and/or rehearsal held on holidays. (Holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year's Day, Valentine’s Day, Labor Day, July 4th, Memorial Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day).

I accept PayPal, cash and credit cards payments.  I do not accept personal checks.

Schedule and Overtime

I may be booked for up to two wedding ceremonies for the same day and thus delays can create difficulties for my schedule.  You will be billed at $25 per 15 minute increment for delays.  For example, if you’re one hour late, you will incur an additional $100 in delay charges.

Your ceremony start time is the time the actual ceremony is to begin. If you’ve given your guests an "invitation time" but intended to start the ceremony later then the invitation time, this must be discussed prior to booking my services.  Schedule and location changes made after booking may result in additional charges for time (at $25 per 15 minutes) and travel expenses may apply.

If for ANY reason by no fault of the mine, the ceremony starts 45 minutes or more after the scheduled start time, I may, at my discretion, modify the contents of the ceremony/script for time as needed.  I will arrive 30 to 45 minutes before the start time to ensure that everything is in order.

Cancellations

In the unlikely event that I am unable to perform your ceremony due to illness, hospitalization, family emergency or any other unforeseeable causes, I will make every possible attempt to notify the Wedding Couple and the Wedding Couple will receive a full refund.  The Wedding Couple agrees that I will NOT be held liable for any damages (including punitive) due to the non-performance of the ceremony.

If the Wedding Couple cancels services after we have had a consultation and a draft of the ceremony has been presented to the Wedding Couple, 100% of the total amount (minus travel and rehearsal fees) is due.  If the ceremony draft has not been presented to the couple, but consultation has taken place, 75% of the total amount must be paid.

Cancellations within 14 calendar days of the wedding date require full payment minus travel and rehearsal fees.

Changes

If you need to change your wedding date or time, and I am available on the new date, the Wedding Couple will be charged a $25 change fee. If I am unable to officiate the ceremony on the new date, and consultation has taken place, and the Wedding Couple has received a draft of the ceremony, the full contracted amount is due minus travel and rehearsal fees.

Safety

Wedding ceremonies are supposed to be a joyous time of celebration.  Unfortunately sometimes this joy may be fueled with alcohol or other substances.  I reserve the right to cancel my participation in the ceremony in the event that I feel threatened in any way by unruly behavior.  No refund will apply.

Pets and wedding ceremonies generally do not have a grand history together.  I therefore ask that you restrain all pets.  I will not interact with any pets in any capacity whatsoever.

Venue Restrictions

The Wedding Couple understands that I am not responsible for dealing with any venue restrictions, including but not limited to, restrictions of open flames, sand, rice, or other toss items, and decorations such as rose petals and other floral and non-floral decor, and I will not be responsible for any adverse impact on the ceremony as a result of such restrictions.

Travel Fees and Expenses

I am based in Plainfield, New Jersey and all travel fees are based on this starting point.  Travel and lodging expenses will apply for ceremonies more than 30 miles from my Plainfield office.

I would be happy to officiate your wedding anywhere in the U.S and other locations upon request. After learning more about your wedding, location, time and expectations, I will provide you with a price quote for my services. Certain restrictions apply.

There may be instances where a wedding is to be held further than a 30 mile range and I may recommend an overnight stay at a cost efficient hotel.

For example:  Say you’re having a 5 pm rehearsal and I must travel 2 hours to your location and the wedding is the next day at 1 pm.  It would make more sense to provide me with an overnight stay nearby so you do not have to pay the travel expense twice, as there may be times the inexpensive hotel will cost less than the travel fee.  It also gives you the peace of mind to know that I am already there thus eliminating any unforeseen circumstances.

Marriage License

A marriage license is required for me to perform your wedding ceremony.  It is incumbent upon you to make your own independent arrangements for your marriage license.  I will not perform a ceremony without careful review of your marriage license.  No refunds will be issued if you failed to obtain a marriage license.  No exceptions.

In the absence of a marriage license, I will not perform a symbolic ceremony as such ceremony has no legal merit.  I will complete and sign the marriage license on the day of the ceremony and will return the completed marriage license by United States Postal Service First-Class mail or equivalent within two (2) business days to the county recorder of the county in which the license was issued.

In the event the marriage license is not received by the county recorder, I will cooperate with the Wedding Couple and county recorder to resolve the issue.  Cost for replacement license, if any, will be assumed by the Wedding Couple.  For privacy reasons, I do not maintain copies of the marriage license.

Rehearsals

Rehearsals will take place the day prior to your ceremony and will last up to 1 hour.  Additional fees will apply if rehearsal runs longer than 1 hour.

Rehearsals are very important.  During the rehearsal you will learn how to pose, hold a bouquet, repeat your vows, place the wedding rings on each other's finger, light the unity candle etc.

Rehearsals are part of the Full Service package only.

Image Release

The Wedding Couple acknowledges that Aretha Gaskin may photograph and/or video wedding ceremonies and publishes such media for reference and marketing purposes. The Wedding Couple’s full names will not be referenced for privacy.  The Wedding Couple waive the right to payment, royalties or any other consideration for the use of the images or stories.

Non-Disparagement

The Wedding Couple agrees that they will not disparage Aretha Gaskin or any of her employees.  For purposes of these Terms and Conditions, “disparage” shall mean any negative statements, whether written or oral, about Aretha Gaskin or Weddings by Aretha & Co.  The parties agree and acknowledge that this non-disparagement provision is a material requirement for working together, the absence of which would have resulted in the Aretha Gaskin refusing to work with the Wedding Couple.

Gratuity

Gratuity is optional and left to the couple’s discretion, but greatly appreciated.

General

The Wedding Couple understands that they are hiring Aretha Gaskin as an Independent Nondenominational Officiant authorized to perform marriage ceremonies in the United States.
